What is IFMA’s World Workplace?

World Workplace is the most longstanding and well-respected learning and networking event for facility management and related professions (IT, PM, HR, engineering, security, real estate, sustainability, energy, etc.).

World Workplace facilitates idea-sharing and knowledge-exchange between all professionals who support the work environment. We come together to find resourceful solutions to common facility challenges; discover achievable strategies that will get the attention of customers, supervisors and colleagues; exchange best practices for managing facilities, teams and projects; and gain new skills, fresh perspectives and a renewed outlook on our future.

Who organizes World Workplace?

In 2016, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) initiated an unprecedented collaboration to strengthen industry support and representation for the 25 million FM practitioners around the world. IFMA and RICS collaborate to produce World Workplace, the largest series of facility management conferences and expositions held around the world.

Who attends?

World Workplace welcomes more than 4,000 attendees from 40 countries and from every state in the U.S. Attendees represent more than 2,000 companies and a range of workplace-related industries. Practitioners, educators, authors, students, government representatives, members of IFMA and partnering organizations, and exhibiting companies attend annually.

World Workplace focuses on topics of interest and concerns of importance to facility professionals. With an established commitment to excellence, World Workplace is renowned for the superior quality of its educational program, the diversity of products and services in the expo, and for providing a supportive and empowering learning and networking experience.

Where & when?

IFMA’s World Workplace will be held Oct. 16-18 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The conference kicks off Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, and concludes Friday evening, Oct. 18. A number of knowledge- and contact-building activities are held just prior to the event (courses and workshops, Deeper Dive sessions, tours, field trips), and require additional registration.

How is the educational program developed?

Each session is hand-selected by a committee of distinguished subject matter experts and knowledgeable practitioners to ensure the value and relevance of presented content. The program committee thoroughly reviews each submission received through our yearly Call for Presentations, evaluating the quality and focus of the content, the applicability of the presentation to the FM profession, and the presenter’s experience and qualifications.

Registration FAQs

What’s the difference between Full Event and Full Event PLUS! registration?

Full Event registration is an all-access pass to conference and expo activities, including the welcome reception, the opening keynote, educational and plenary sessions, networking events and breaks, lunch vouchers, the closing keynote and awards luncheon, IFMA’s THE After Party and online access to the conference proceedings.

Full Event PLUS! includes all of the above features, plus a ticket to the IFMA Foundation fundraiser, your CEU processing fee. It’s the best value for those who want to do and see more during their week.

Are pre-conference courses, Deeper Dive sessions and facility tours included in World Workplace registration?

No. Courses and workshops, Deeper Dive sessions, tours, field trips and other activities taking place prior to Wednesday, Oct. 3 require separate registration. Simply checkmark the course or activity you’d like to attend on your World Workplace registration form, and it will be added to your total event price.

Do you offer a group discount?

Yes. Groups of five or more from the same company with a single company contact will receive the fifth registration FREE. (Only valid for Full Event and Full Event PLUS! registrations, and must be submitted and/or processed at the same time.)

Can I use a co-worker’s IFMA membership to register at the member rate?

No. IFMA membership is individually based and non-transferable; however, nonmember FM professionals who register for the Full Event or Full Event PLUS! receive a complimentary one-year membership in IFMA and a local IFMA chapter.

Is member pricing only available to IFMA members?

Members of the following organizations qualify for member rates: IFMA, ABRAFAC, AIA, ASBE, ASID, ​BOMA, BOMI, EuroFM, FMA, GLOBAL FM, IIDA, IWFM, RICS, SAME and USGBC. To attend at member rates, you must be a member in good standing of IFMA or a partnering organization and have paid your annual dues by the time of registration.

What is your cancellation policy?

IFMA reserves the right to cancel an IFMA educational event due to low enrollment, unforeseen factors, or any other reason making it practically or economically inadvisable to conduct the event. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified as promptly as the circumstances permit (although IFMA cannot be liable for any failure to notify). IFMA, however, cannot be responsible for any other costs, losses or inconveniences that a registrant may incur, such as costs of transportation (plane, train, rental car, etc.), hotel cancellation fees, reservation fees, lost pay, vacation or leave time, etc.

What is your refund policy?

Full refunds will be granted for cancellation received in writing to IFMA prior to August 1st, 2019. A 50 percent penalty, plus a US $75 administration fee will be applied to cancellations received in writing to IFMA between Aug.1st – Sept. 1st, 2019. Refunds will not be granted after Sept. 1st, 2019. Refunds will not be given for no- shows after the conference. You are allowed a one-time transfer for your registration as long as your replacement is a member. If your substitute is not a member, he/she will need to become a member to receive the transfer. Transfers are one-time only and cannot be used from year to year.

I’m traveling from outside the United States — what do I need?

U.S. regulations require security checks for most visitor visas, resulting in a process that may take three months or more to complete. Individuals who require a visa to attend World Workplace, please apply soon. Citizens of certain countries must have an invitation in hand before they can obtain a passport from their government and apply for a U.S. entry visa. International attendees requiring a letter of invitation may email a request to ifma@ifma.org

On-site FAQs

What’s the recommended dress code?

We want you to be comfortable so that you can fully enjoy your experience. Business casual attire is encouraged. We suggest bringing a light sweater or jacket with you during the day as the rooms are air-conditioned. “Snappy casual” is suitable for events such as the IFMA Foundation fundraiser and THE After Party. Casual attire is suitable for the Welcome Reception and business casual for the awards luncheon.

What are the official hotels, and how do I book my room?

IFMA’s hotel block includes 5 outstanding Phoenix hotels. The booking deadline for discounted rates is Sept. 10. Book your room(s) directly from the World Workplace website.

Does World Workplace have an app?

Search for “IFMA EVENTS” in the iPhone app store or Android market. Access the Attendee Service Center to create a personalized event schedule, review/edit your registration information, download an attendee roster, log CEUs and more.

Is there assigned seating at the sessions or special events?

All seating is general admission — first-come, first-served. For educational sessions, we recommend selecting two in each timeslot in case the room for your first choice fills up. The Opening Keynote is held in an auditorium, ensuring enough seating for all attendees. Seating for the awards luncheon and THE After Party is general admission; however, honorees are assigned reserved tables close to the stage.

What on-site services do you provide?

For your comfort and convenience, cell phone charging stations, a medic, business center (for shipping, mailing, faxing, photocopying, printing), information counters (for questions about the conference or local attractions), and computer terminals (to manage CEUs, evaluate sessions, access the Attendee Service Center) are provided at the convention center.

Do you practice sustainability at the event?

Yes. IFMA is committed to promoting sustainable business practices and minimizing our carbon footprint at every event.

  • Bins are located throughout the convention center for recycling papers, used cans/bottles and conference name badges for reuse at future IFMA events.
  • Post-conference panel notes, presentations, proceedings and session evaluations are available online.
  • Table centerpieces, foam core and other surplus materials and supplies are recycled or donated to a local school or charity.
  • We provide reusable mugs or eco-products, reusable silverware and/or cornstarch compostables; we use locally grown or fair trade products as often as possible; and surplus catering is donated to a local charity.

I was photographed/videotaped at the event — how will you use the photo/video?

By registering for World Workplace, you authorize IFMA the right to photograph and/or videotape you, and to use the photographs/video in all formats and media for any purpose, including but not limited to education, marketing and trade. Registrants hold harmless and release IFMA from all claims arising out of the use of photographs/video, including without limitation all claims for compensation, libel, invasion of privacy or violation of copyright ownership.
